Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking

Oakland Township Sentinel Readers:

Did you know we have a very extensive and challenging mountain biking trail area within our township? The Shelden Trails are east of Shelden Road and south of Mead Road. They are 100% within the boundaries of Oakland Township. These can be accessed from inside Stony Creek Metropark (Parking areas M or N on the map segment below) or a somewhat secluded entrance (no parking) off Shelden Road at #4 on the map below. You can also bike to the park on safety paths and sidewalks (Dequindre), as I do, taking  Paint Creek Trail to Clinton River Trail to Dequindre, north on the sidewalk to a somewhat hidden paved path leading east to the Park entrance. It 11 miles from my house to the entrance.

For an complete inventory of what is available where in this area for all parks and recreation activities see the excellent Parks Inventory section of the Master Plan at the link below on pages 35-76. The tables on pages 68 and 69 are a gigantic very complete spreadsheet of what can be found where. You have to print both out and tape together to best use it as page 69 is the extension of page 68. The map on page 38 shows locations of all parks within our township borders. The map on page 67 shows regional parks. The other pages are full of useful information and park maps.
